Silicone elastomers for personal care

Compare alkyl, wax, film-forming and silicone gel elastomers by INCI composition, appearance and listed formulation functions.

These four paste-form materials are listed for personal care. Their recorded functions include improving slip and reducing stickiness; the composition and finish differ by model.

VN-SI-1001 lists the INCI name CETYL DIMETHICONE/DIMETHICONE CROSSPOLYMER. VN-SI-1004 lists CYCLOPENTASILOXANE/DIMETHICONE CROSSPOLYMER. VN-SI-1006 includes an alkyl methicone component, while VN-SI-1007 includes trimethylsiloxysilicate and lists film-forming functionality.

What to check when selecting

  • Compare the full INCI composition with the oil phase and ingredient requirements of your formulation.
  • For the listed finish, distinguish the gloss feature of VN-SI-1006 from the matte features of VN-SI-1001, VN-SI-1004 and VN-SI-1007.
  • Evaluate texture, dispersion and film behavior in the complete formulation before choosing an addition level.

Selection questions

Can these elastomers be substituted directly?

The compositions differ. Review the INCI list and run formulation trials before substitution; the shared paste form does not establish equivalence.

Which model lists film-forming functionality?

VN-SI-1007 lists film forming and contains trimethylsiloxysilicate in its INCI composition. Final film behavior needs assessment in your formulation.
